Bird & Bird is on a hiring spree in Sydney.
The international firm has tapped Vince Baudille to expand its real estate practice in the city. He is the third partner from Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) to move to Bird & Bird in the past weeks.
Last month, Two Birds scored four partners from rivals
in Sydney. Among that group were Steve Johns and Anthony Latimer, who also joined the firm from NRF. Partners Sophie Dawson and Richard Hawkins moved from Ashurst
and from Rugby Australia, respectively.
Bird & Bird said that Baudille’s appointment is part of its expansion in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Baudille focuses on advising banks, developers, foreign and domestic investors, landlords, and tenants on all aspects of real estate and infrastructure development law.
At the firm, he will have particular focus on aiding the growing energy and utilities team in Sydney, which has built a considerable practice focused on renewable energy projects. The role is in addition to supporting the firm’s corporate team.
Jonathan Baker, international head of real estate at Bird & Bird, said that the real estate group plays an important role in major corporate and commercial projects across the firm.
“The appointment of Vince in our real estate practice in the Asia-Pacific region will not only increase our ability to advise clients in this area, but will also bolster our capabilities in the corporate and commercial groups,” Baker said.
Baudille said that Bird & Bird’s footprint in Asia-Pacific and internationally offers him the right platform to better assist clients and grow his practice.
Earlier this week, former NRF partner and Sydney office chief Felicity Rourke
surfaced at Allens, which also hired partner Jillian Button
from Corrs Chambers Westgarth. However, NRF has also been boosting its ranks, most recently appointing partner Gavin Scott
from Ashurst in Brisbane. In December, NRF elevated its Australian head to global chair
