Sea-change ahead for in-house lawyers

by NZ Lawyer07 Nov 2018

In-house lawyers have always had a business advisory role in their organisations. But as organisations adapt to changing requirements and technologies, the demands on in-house lawyers have moved beyond technical legal advice to a more strategic focus.

Tom Lane, General Counsel – New Zealand & Pacific at Coca-Cola Amatil, says in-house counsels should be embracing this sea-change.

In his session at the upcoming In-House Legal Summit, Lane will discuss the key things that in-house counsels need to understand in order to be an effective business advisor.

He will explore what in-house lawyers need to know before they can give effective business advice; how to maintain legal independence while increasing influence; and their ethical business and corporate responsibilities.

Lane will also cover what in-house counsels need to know about business financials and business analysis.
