A banking and finance expert has been confirmed as the fifth new Russell McVeagh’s partner this month.

David Weavers moved back to Russell McVeagh last year and joined the partnership on 10 December. He started his legal career at the leading firm before he moved to London and then Hong Kong for stints at top New York-headquartered firms Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Weil, Gotshal & Manges, respectively.

The new partner is an expert in corporate and acquisition finance, asset finance, project finance, debt capital markets, derivatives, venture capital, and debt restructuring. He also specialises in financial services regulation and has completed all three examination levels for the chartered financial analyst program.

His extensive experience includes working on Greece’s €206bn debt restructuring, CVC's first European leveraged buyout and dividend-recapitalisation using US-style covenant-lite financing terms, and HNA's financing of its US$6.5bn acquisition of a stake in Hilton from Blackstone. The Hilton deal won The American Lawyer’s 2017 Global finance Deal of the Year – Acquisition Finance award.

The appointment was announced after Russell McVeagh revealed the promotions of Liz Blythe, Anna Crosbie, Emmeline Rushbrook, and Nathaniel Walker earlier this month.
