Russell McVeagh has grown its property and construction team with the hire of a senior commercial property lawyer from a rival.

Sarah Blackmore has been appointed by the firm as a special counsel. She made the move from MinterEllisonRuddWatts, where she was most recently a senior associate.

Blackmore, who has more than 14 years’ experience, is an expert in commercial property, with a special focus on commercial leasing, residential subdivisions, forestry, and inbound investment into New Zealand property. She has acted in several large-scale commercial acquisition and disposal transactions of freehold, leasehold, and unit title estates. She is experienced in preparing and negotiating sale and purchase agreements and agreements to build and lease.

“Sarah has a proven ability to build strong rapport with clients and provides expert advice on a wide range of matters, including acquisitions and disposals of commercial property and businesses, commercial leasing and associated transactions, development agreements, subdivisions and financing transactions,” Russell McVeagh said.

Malcolm Crotty, the firm’s chairman, said that Blackmore is a welcome addition to the property and construction team as it continues to serve a growing client base. He said that the firm will continue to invest and add capacity where market demand is strong and opportunities are abundant.
