Rice Speir has expanded its partnership beyond Helen Rice and Nathan Speir.
Simon Waalkens joined the firm’s partnership effective 1 August, he has confirmed to NZ Lawyer.
Waalkens’ appointment came after he joined the firm in January as a senior associate. He made the move from Meredith Connell, where he was an associate. He was also previously a senior lawyer at a firm in London that became DWF and a senior solicitor at DLA Piper.
Waalkens is an expert in commercial litigation, as well as regulatory and compliance matters. Rice Speir said that he has particular experience in regulatory prosecution and defence, insurance, professional negligence, health law, construction disputes, complex fraud, and workplace health and safety.
He has acted for clients here and abroad in a wide range of dispute-resolution proceedings, including mediations, arbitrations, court litigations, and coronial inquests.
Rice Speir said that Waalkens has conducted hundreds of criminal hearings. He also has extensive experience as lead counsel appearing before the High Courts and tribunals.
