Legal luminaries and prominent Kiwis recently celebrated the leadership of Cathy Quinn ONZM, former board chair of MinterEllisonRuddWatts, and Lloyd Kavanagh, her successor, in events held in Auckland and Wellington last month.

More than 150 guests attended the two events, including Sir David Gascoigne, Rt Hon Sir Don McKinnon, Rt Hon Sir William Birch, Hon Sir Justice Mark O’Regan, Sir Eion Edgar, Dame Paula Rebstock, Hon Justice Robert Dobson, and Queen’s Counsel Bruce Gray.

They were celebrating Quinn’s chairpersonship and congratulating Kavanagh on his election. Kavanagh became the firm’s chair on 1 January. His appointment was announced in early December after Quinn said in October that she would not seek re-election as chair of the firm after more than eight years in the role. At the time of the announcement, CEO Mike Schubert noted that Quinn started leading the firm just when the repercussions of the global financial crisis were being most felt around the world.

However, Quinn is not retiring and continues her work as the leader of the firm’s corporate and mergers and acquisitions practice. She will also continue to help develop the firm’s non-executive directors portfolio.

In addition to being the firm’s chair, Kavanagh, who has served on the firm’s board since 2010, will also continue his governance, financial services, and funds management practice.
