Wellington barrister and solicitor Joanna Holden has been appointed as a judge of the Employment Court of New Zealand.

She is currently a team manager of a Crown Law public law team, which specialises in employment law, health and safety law, public law, and judicial review.

Admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1985, she specialised in employment law and general civil litigation. She has worked at Kensington Swan and later at Chapman Tripp. She joined Crown Law in 2004.

Judge Holden, who will be based in Auckland, will be sworn in on 8 September in Wellington. If they wish, counsel can robe for the 1 pm ceremonial sitting in courtroom 5.1 on level 5 of the District Court on Ballance Street, said Chief Judge Christina Inglis.
