Lawyers, staff at global firm to benefit from tech training

Clifford Chance has launched its Tech Academy to ensure that lawyers and staff are up to speed with innovations.

The global program will include online training and resources, along with face-to-face workshops hosted by Australian innovation consultancy Collective Campus, which will run the one-day events throughout the year and across Clifford Chance’s worldwide locations.

The program will include coding, AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, and data privacy.

Singapore-based finance partner Paul Landless is one of the leaders of Clifford Chance’s tech group. He says the Tech Academy is essential to meet client needs.

“To remain as trusted advisers, our clients expect us to be conversant with not only the key technology themes that are driving their transactions, fundraisings and new digital business models, but also today's legal and regulatory risks or compliance challenges with managing ever-increasing data across borders or swiftly introducing new technologies alone or with support from other businesses," says Landless.

DLA Piper helps Aussie sports tech firm’s growth strategy
A team from DLA Piper has advised Australian sports technology firm Catapult Group International on its AU$25 million institutional placement to fund its growth strategy.

The team was led by Sydney-based corporate partner David Ryan and Melbourne corporate partner Joel Cox, assisted by senior associate Kelly Morrison and solicitor Amina Karcic.

The net proceeds from the placement will be used to fund growth strategies for Elite Sales (specifically focusing on growth in the Americas, Europe and Asia, as well as investing in additional software development and a new technology stack).

Commodities team boost for Reed Smith
Reed Smith in Singapore has hired former Norton Rose Fulbright partner Daniel Perera as a partner in its energy and natural resources group.

He has been in the city state since 2010 and has extensive market experience across Southeast Asia including three years as in-house counsel at a major mining firm.
