DLA Piper eyes new Auckland development for flagship Australasian location

DLA Piper says Auckland will soon house another flagship Australasian location when it moves to the PwC Tower at Commercial Bay.

The global firm has committed to lease two floors of the 39-level tower and plans to create a modern, flexible, and high-tech open plan workplace. It will move to the tower in June 2019, leaving the DLA Piper Tower on Queens Street.

“[Commercial Bay] is unlike anything Auckland has seen before. Our new office in the PwC Tower will be a flagship location in Australasia, where visitors locally and from around the world are welcome and do business,” said Martin Wiseman, DLA Piper’s New Zealand country managing partner.

DLA Piper will be joining MinterEllisonRuddWatts, which announced last August that it has selected the PwC Tower as its newest base in Auckland. MinterEllison will also move into the PwC Tower in 2019.

Simon Levine, DLA Piper's global co-CEO, said that the goal is to establish a great workplace for both staff and clients that promotes collaboration. The firm has established a new office design model which has been applied to workplaces in the new Brisbane, Manchester, and Sydney premises.

Wiseman said that the new office will give junior lawyers more opportunities to see more seasoned practitioners at work. It will also feature spaces to entertain clients, network with them at events, and deliver training, he said.
