Auckland barrister Tracey Walker has been appointed as a judge of the High Court. She will sit in Auckland.
After earning her BA and LLB from the University of Auckland in 1988, she began her legal career at Simpson Grierson. She moved to the UK in 1989, before joining the commercial litigation practice of Slaughter and May in London in 1990.
She obtained her LLM from the University of London in 1991, before moving back to Simpson Grierson in Auckland in 1992. She made partner at the firm in 1997.
Walker spent 16 years as a litigation partner with a focus on general dispute resolution and IP. She then became a consultant special counsel specialising in media and IP litigation for three years.
At the start of the year, she joined the Auckland bar and co-founded Sangro Chambers.
