An American firm has expanded its network with a major acquisition.
Ballard Spahr has completed its acquisition of Midwest firm Lindquist & Vennum, also marking the retirement of the latter brand. The new firm now has more than 650 lawyers in 15 offices across the US.
The deal adds Ballard Spahr offices in Minneapolis and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It also adds lawyers to the firm’s Denver office. With the deal, the firm’s largest office outside of its Philadelphia base is now in Minneapolis.
The firm’s M&A, private equity, and finance practices are also strengthened by the deal.
“We have looked for a combination that would strengthen our ability to meet the significant increase in demand we see on the transactional side. This merger brings more than 60 M&A and private equity deal lawyers into our corporate department, as well as others whose skills align with the strengths of the firm across practice areas,” said Mark Stewart, Ballard Spahr chair.
Lindquist & Vennum was also known for litigation and middle-market dealmaking.
“We’ve spent months aligning practice capabilities and getting to know one another so that clients on both sides will benefit from our expanded services from day one. Our name will change, but the qualities upon which we have built our reputation will not,” said Dennis O’Malley, who was managing partner at Lindquist & Vennum.
