has welcomed a retail and franchising specialist to the firm’s partnership.
Katrina Hammon was promoted to partner just over a year after joining the firm from her in-house role as senior legal counsel at SumoSalad, Australia’s largest healthy fast food franchise. Hammon leads the firm’s national retail and franchise team and is based in Auckland.
”The speed at which Katrina has moved through the ranks is testament to her work ethic, her ability to add significant value for her clients and her depth of knowledge in the retail sector,” said Duncan Cotterill
partner Raewyn Lovett.
Hammon, who specialises in retail and franchising and licensing, has acted for global brands expanding to new markets, including India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, United Kingdom, America, and Canada.
Before SumoSalad, Hammon was a senior associate at global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright, spending nearly four years working out of the firm’s Sydney office. She still works with some of Australia’s largest franchisors and retailers and regularly offers media commentary on industry compliance, competition and consumer law, intellectual property, global expansion, and international trade.
“I’ve grown up in retail and enjoy working in an industry that’s constantly evolving, particularly with the growing influence of digital and online. My knowledge of the Australian and New Zealand markets and dual practising certificates is a unique offer to Australian clients wanting to expand to New Zealand. I’m fortunate to have the support of the other partners to grow the retail and franchising practice within Duncan Cotterill
,” Hammon said.
The firm now has 40 partners nationwide. It recently strengthened its property team with three lateral hires
