Lighter Side: BigLaw partner shows how saying goodbye is done

by Sol Dolor11 Nov 2016
BigLaw firms, by virtue of their size and fearsome reputation, may seem stoic all the time. But every now and then, we get gems like this mock order from a former partner that remind us that these organisations are filled with people who have the capacity to be brilliantly witty when they prefer to.

Katharine H. Parker left the partnership at Proskauer Rose to don robes as part of the Southern District of New York’s federal bench.

The 49-year-old shows us that not only is she capable of chairing different practice groups at the BigLaw firm – such as its employment law counselling and training, government regulatory relations and affirmative action and hiring and background checks groups – she is also hilarious when she wants to be.

“I've really wanted to serve the greater justice system, and this was a good time. The opportunity opened up and I jumped,” she told the New York Law Journal.

Before becoming a magistrate judge, however, the former labour and employment partner wrote a mock order which comes to us via Above The Law.
