Bell Gully has announced the appointment of two special counsel and five new senior associates.

Brendan Cash and Liz Lim will take up new positions in the firm as the first special counsel.

Cash, formally at Ashurst in London, is an experienced litigator with expertise in construction litigation.  Lim, in the banking and finance team, has been with Bell Gully for 16 years after spending two years abroad with Allen & Overy in London.  She joined the law after spending four years as a banker in ANZ’s graduate program.

“Special counsel is a new position within the firm and recognises long serving, highly respected practitioners in the firm who demonstrate outstanding legal skills and have built reputations as trusted advisors to our clients in their specialist areas of expertise.

“We are delighted to recognise Brendan and Liz in this way and congratulate them on achieving this special position,” said chair Chris Gordon.

Natasha Garvan, Lisa McLennan, Kate Venning, Gemma Wills and Kirstin Wilson have all been appointed senior associate.

Garvan, an environmental and resource management law specialist, has experience appearing before councils and Courts and undertaking due diligence for major corporate and property transactions.  McLennan specialises in environmental and planning law and has advised on major infrastructure projects.

Venning and Wilson are both litigators.  Venning has experience in international arbitration, having worked on high profile commercial disputes both in New Zealand and internationally.   Wilson specialises in media and consumer law and regularly provides advice regarding product labelling, consumer law, advertising and marketing.

Wills has expertise in property, focussing on acquisitions, disposals and property finance.  She is also experienced in advising on the Overseas Investment Act 2005 for many international investors.

“These five new senior associates are outstanding lawyers and showcase the depth and breadth of talent we have across the firm,” Gordan said.
