FBI unlocks iPhone ending contentious Apple court case

The US Justice Department dropped a Supreme Court order to compel Apple to assist in accessing encrypted phone data after the FBI and a ‘third party’ gained access to the encrypted iPhone used by a San Bernadio shooter.

The Justice Department has asked a court to withdraw an order compelling Apple to write new software to disable passcode protection to allow access to the phone used by Rizwan Farook, one of the shooters.

Apple has declined to make an immediate comment on the court developments, a Reuters report said.
Farook, one of the husband-and-wife shooters in the California shooting in December, died in a police shootout where 14 people were kill and 22 wounded.
