The Honourable Justice Murray Ashley Gilbert has been appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal.
Gilbert’s legal career started even before his graduation with an LLB from Auckland University in 1977, having joined Kensington Swan
as a law clerk in 1976. He went on to become a solicitor at the firm after being admitted to the bar, and a partner in 1985.
He became a partner at Chapman Tripp
in 1996, before establishing the Gilbert Walker partnership with Campbell Walker QC in 2004. At Gilbert Walker, he specialised in commercial litigation, with a particular focus on defending negligence claims.
Gilbert took silk in 2008 and was appointed as a judge of the High Court in January 2012.
